A Bit About Me

Hi! My name is Anaïs. I was born in Bogotá, Colombia, to a Guatemalan mother and a Swiss father. I spent my childhood moving across Latin America and Europe and adapting to different cultures and customs. It was only in Panama, at the age of eight, that I began learning to speak English and where I was assured that I would not master the language. At nineteen, I moved to England to dive deep into my love for English literature in its very birthplace. At the ripe old age of twenty-two, I carry an outstanding academic record and a Bachelor's degree in English and Related Literature on my back, as well as a wealth of learning and skills obtained through assessments and volunteering, casual, and freelance work.

I have experience as an editorial intern for a start-up magazine Ankhä Azzura, where I have written articles on wellness, built a relationship with companies like AG1, designed and created copy for newsletters and social media posts, and am in the process of supporting the release of a podcast. Well-versed in website creation, writing in diverse tones for different brands and aims, using CMS like Wix and WordPress and designing and editing images on Canva, InDesign and Photoshop. Both a quick learner and passionate, I am eager to enter a role where creativity is at the very forefront of the job description.

I am fluent in English, German and Spanish and have acquired an abundance of transferable skills including communication, interpersonal, teamwork and leadership. I was given the opportunity to refine these skills through my work as an English as a Second Language Support Assistant at a primary school in York, as an English Ambassador for the University of York, as a Contributing Writer for Trill Magazine, and as the founder and Secretary General of the MUN club at the International School of Como.

Moreover, my time at the University enabled me to excitedly explore modules focusing on creative writing, book publishing, and world literature. Not only did they encourage new perspectives and ways of thinking, but they also propelled problem-solving and self-reflection. It was through the start of these modules that I began scoring firsts and gained the confidence to enter a Hive South Yorkshire Young Writers' Competition. While my work, "Mojados", was highly commended and depicts family and culture, it likewise attempts to convey the echoes of sorrow and pain from the thousands of Latinos crossing the border, seeking a better life and often dying. The short story can be found under 'Published Works' in the 'Creative section'. I am passionate about content and creative writing and seek to apply my skills and qualities with equal ambition in my next role.
